While it is vital to use the standard XCRI-CAP structure, it is also important that some of the information within your data set matches with standard encoding schemes, vocabularies or controlled text as well.This will aid the understanding of learners and other users of your information and will make searching, sorting and filtering the information more efficient and effective.

These vocabularies are often dependent on the educational sectors relevant to your organisation, and different communities of practice often use different vocabularies.
