Text from event information:

"The regulatory landscape in higher education is in a period of profound and rapid change demanding an equally rapid response from suppliers and managers of information systems. JISC is currently running a programme around the increasing demand for course data in the UK education system. This is driven in part by the Government transparency agenda which promotes the release of public data and internally by a need to inform business planning. The recent Government White Paper Students at the Heart of the system identifies a demand for more, easier to find, accurate comparative course data to enable informed choice. It also tasks HESA to redesign the HE Information Landscape in order to arrive at a new system that meets the needs of a wider group of users; reduces the duplication that currently exists and results in timelier and more relevant data. The importance of this work was highlighted recently by Universities and Science Minister, David Willetts.

This event will discuss the implications of the changes from the perspectives of the broad vision for the future and more immediate objectives such as the benefits and opportunities of implementing standards such as XCRI-CAP and HEAR. Speakers will include Gill Ferrell and John Milner (HESA HE Information Landscape project), Ruth Drysdale and Rob Englebright, managers of the JISC Course Data programme. Light refreshments will be provided.
